LOS ALAMOS POLICE NOT SATISFIED YET

Marcus Page of Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists (TNA) will go back to trial on March 31st 2009 for for alleged trespassing while praying at Los Alamos, NM. On April 14th, 2008 two members of TNA were arrested for praying at Los Alamos National Laboratory in opposition to war taxes. One defendant, Mike Butler, made a plea bargain in September 2008, and was later exonerated. The other defendant, Marcus Page, previously had a mistrial on Monday the 18th of August. Page received notice in the mail this week that the Los Alamos Police have re-filed for another day in court, because the prior trial utilized a jury which failed to reach consensus on guilt or innocence.

The two men were part of a group of six who held vigil during daylight hours on April 14th & 15th. Charged with trespassing on Department of Energy land, both men say they were praying openly along the public road in county territory, and they believe the Laboratory has no rights to conduct nuclear weapons work anywhere. Page's re-arraignment was held October 29th, and will be tried again at that same courthouse: 1319 Trinity Drive, Los Alamos.

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a facility of the Department of Energy (DoE). TNA continues to conduct monthly vigils on DoE land @ LANL; the next vigil is scheduled for December 8th @ 8:00am. Regarding the re-trial, Marcus Page said, "Our last jury did the right thing. Given the nature of this town, I believe our next jury will likewise do the right thing. This is a simple way for New Mexicans to spread the word that the nuclear age is ending."
